Intel specifies Celeron M roadmap
It seems that these months Intel is going to aggressively attack the inexpensive notebooks market, in which Centrino has a not very good position. However, you shouldn´t expect prices for Centrino components to go down at once. Yes, you are to see the inexpensive Centrino notebooks in the market, but they´ll reach it in some other way: due to the "light" Pentium M processors that are already nicknamed Celeron M.
Last week we published the corresponding provisional data. Today PC Watch offered more details.
So, the first Banias-based Celeron M processors will have 512KB L2 cache. In Q1 2004 Intel is to introduce 1.2GHz and 1.3GHz models, in Q2 2004 – 1.4GHz model, in Q3 – 1.5GHz model. At that the first chips should consume 24.5W like usual Pentium M. At the same time we should see the 90nm Dothan-based Celeron M processors.
